Hello, my name is Scott.
Welcome and thanks for stopping by.
I'm a network engineer with ten years of experience in enterprise operations with a global IT managed service provider.
I specialize in campus network technologies, management and operations, IT and datacenter infrastructure, and physical security.
STRENGTHS
Creative Problem Solving
I've heard "we've always done it this way" and "this is how everyone else does it" throughout my career. And I understand that sometimes budget or time constraints leave no other option than the staus quo. But it's rare that a product or process can't be improved upon. I enjoy critical thinking and problem solving. I value creativity, original thought, and design simplicity.
Engineering Ethos: Design Simplicity
Networks and IT systems are complicated. Complexity isn't inherintly bad. But I believe that simplicity wherever possible benefits network reliability (fewer points of failure or chance of misconfigurations), troubleshooting efforts (RCA and time-to-resolution), and information security (keep configurations clean and security rules tight).
Management and Communication
I've managed both people and projects. Managing people is the bigger challenge but it can also be more rewarding. Good managers lead by example, inspire and protect team members, and encourage them to learn new skills and develop professionally. The best managers I've worked with set clear expectations, communicated well and provided immediate and constant feedback, provided resources, cleared roadblocks, and recognized the importance of culture.
TESTIMONIALS
E.B.
I can certainly recommend Scott’s initiative, conscientious attention to project management, and people skills. Scott took ownership of the project to repair and expand IT systems at Chateau de Courtomer, and the result is an efficient and reliable service.

Rarely do you come across someone who is talented at both big picture ideas and executing the small details – Scott is that person.

I'm going to take this opportunity to talk about what matters most to me. Trust. When Scott started working with us, he knew he needed to understand not only what we do but what's important to us.
When Scott runs a project, it's buttoned up. Teams are in place. Timelines are created and met. No chaos. No super heroes. No big splash around successful completion. Simply, a job well done!
I happily work side by side with Scott because he works with integrity, he’s personal agenda-free and cares deeply about the success of our businesses.
Engineering Manager
IT Infrastructure and Corporate Network Operations
Sept 2019 - Nov 2022
In this role I managed a team of network engineers and administrators responsible for global network operations. My duties included team leadership, customer relationship management, resource management (human, capital, time), contracts management, incident response, budgeting, and accounting.
My project management duties included meeting with customers to consult and gather solution requirements, preparing project proposals and presenting our recommendations, workflow management and resource planning, and communications.
Network Engineer
Corporate Network Operations
June 2015 - Aug 2019
As a network engineer I collaborated on WAN/LAN network architecture and design projects. I ordered and setup new internet carrier services and configured Cisco routers, firewalls, VPNs, switches, wireless access points, computers and telephones.
Additionally my day-to-day duties included hardware procurement, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, user training and updating documentation.
While in this role I completed a three-year project to update and replace the company’s existing network stack (Cisco Catalyst) with a more modern technology (Cisco Meraki) to bring us into alignment with modern design and security best practices. In total 32 offices were upgraded in the US, Ireland, France, and Nicaragua. This project improved both wired and wireless network speed, reliability, and security for 2,500 users and their 5,000 devices.
Network Administrator
Network Operations
Feb 2013 - May 2015
As a network administrator I worked in Cisco's command-line interface (CLI) to make routine configuration changes and perform maintenance. I assisted in hardware installation and configuration, operations and maintenance, security, monitoring, troubleshooting, user training, and documentation of Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, wireless, VPN and VoIP. I built and ran the company's NOC and participated in after-hours on-call rotation.
I also built and ran the company's global access control and CCTV system. The new system integrated with the company’s employee privilege management system (Microsoft Active Directory) to automatically manage permissions of 2,500 employees in 23 office buildings in US and Europe. It was an essential part of meeting compliance for information security PCI and PIAA certifications. The system allowed us to keep and audit entry records for 208 doors, view and archive the video of 187 cameras at entry doors, parking lots, and other high-security areas.
